The Sega CDX, released as Multi-Mega CDX in Brazil and Sega Multi-Mega in other regions, is a video game console released by the Sega Corporation in 1994. The Sega CDX was designed to have compatibility with both the Sega Genesis and Sega CD, having both a cartridge slot and a disc drive.

In addition to being able to play Sega CD games, the system can read audio CDs, and with the further addition of a headphone port, the CDX's compact size make it applicable to be a portable music device. However, the three AA batteries used for this drain rather quickly.

Only less than 5,000 units of the Sega CDX reached sails due to its limited availability.

Technical specifications[]

  • CPU: Motorola 68000
  • Media: ROM cartridge, Compact Disc

Accessories[]

Sega 32X[]

Confusion of the Sega 32X's compatibility with the Sea CDX has arisen over the years. The Sega 32X's manual states that the Mega Drive accessory does work with the CDX. However, due to the system never receiving proper approval from the U.S. FCC, this compatibility was never noted in the U.S. release of the system, though still possible. If properly connected, the system can indeed work alongside the 32X.
